The process of going from an initial discussion to a finished piece will start with loose thumbnail sketches to scope out the design of the piece. I will provide an estimate of costs, which would be as accurate as possible at this point in the commission. When the parameters of the design are settled upon I will draft up a commission agreement; once signed the stone can be ordered. Depended on the stone chosen it could take anything from 6 weeks to 6 months for it to arrive. This length of time is often taken into consideration when choosing the stone and varies with each order. Once I have the stone I can begin carving. The time between completing a carving and fixing can vary, but depending on the urgency of your commission, can be arranged to suit your needs. In general a realistic time scale for the completion of a hand carved piece of lettering is anything from 6 months to a year, most often longer.
